The real cost of fuelling

Icon of calendar17/04/2025

Sometimes athletes tell us we’re expensive. And they’re right, if you’re just looking at the price. But when you take a closer look at what you’re actually getting per euro, both in terms of fuelling and hydration, it tells a whole different story.

Take one of the most trusted gels on the market, SIS GO Isotonic Energy Gels, for instance. Each of those gels gives you 22 grams of carbohydrates (single source) and just 4 milligrams of sodium. A box of 20 gels costs 45 euros, or 2,25 euros per gel. That sounds like a better deal than our 3,75 euro gel at first glance, doesn't it? Well, it’s not.

But what are you actually getting?

Our gel contains 45 grams of carbohydrates, sourced from three types of carbohydrates to utilise multiple absorption pathways in the gut. That matters a lot when you're out there pushing for hours, and when your body has to keep processing fuel efficiently. We also deliver 343 milligrams of sodium, something most gels barely touch. And that’s not just for the lab. It makes a big difference when you’re racing in the heat, climbing into hour three, or bouncing back from sweat loss.

So how does that stack up in real-world value?

Carbohydrates per euro

  • SIS: 22 g carbohydrates / €2,25 = 9,78 gram per euro or €0,10 per gram of carbohydrate
  • Victus: 45 g carbohydrates / €3,75 = 12,00 gram per euro or €0,08 per gram of carbohydrates

In other words: we provide 22,7% more carbohydrates per euro.

Sodium per euro

  • SIS: 4 mg sodium / €2,25 = 1,78 mg per euro
  • Victus: 343 mg sodium / €3,75 = 91,47 mg per euro

Here, we provide 5036% more sodium per euro.

To match the number of carbs in one our gels, you would need more than two SIS gels, which already brings your cost up to 4,50 euros. And you would still be falling short on sodium, the very thing that helps you absorb those carbs and stay hydrated.

It also means more weight to carry around and more hassle while training. More waste left behind. More complex timing. More mixing & matching. More additional sodium tablets. And we can go on. In essence: it gives you more of what you don’t want, and less of what you need - efficiency.

So yes, our gel costs €3,75, but what you’re buying is more than just fuel and a bigger bang for your buck. You’re buying fewer steps, less GI discomfort, smarter and more economical fuelling, and a product that respects both your wallet and the effort you’re putting in.
